Blades of the Shogun
An illustration I did for fun, for a homebrew chapter of Space marines I made called “Blades of the Shogun”
During the happenings of the Great Rift, a system became isolated. The rulers then decided to shut down the system completely. The Sakoku period. During which, the space marine chapter of unknown origin, became nobility in their own right. Being isolated from the rest of the Imperium skewed the perspectives of advancement in skill and doctrine. Over time, the marines opted out of using ranged weapons in favor of intricately crafted power swords and even bows. The narrow focus of those weapons enhanced their skill above the average space marine, however, the downside of them forsaking ranged weapons would pose an issue at times, where there would be surge of heresy amidst the populous. In this locked state, they continue waiting for the Shogun (Emperor name given by them) ‘s return, while not allowing even rogue traders to set foot on their planets. All the while, perfecting their close combat, and fending off any and all invaders that might stumble upon their system. Xenos , heretic or otherwise.
