Lieutenant Gaelan had crashed down though a hive spire window taking most of the wall with him. The shots were as rapid as they were precise, his jump pack thrusters expertly severed from the cables to its generator. A keen eye and a patient marksman are not a rarity on a battlefield but the combination required to wound and disable him before he could react, was. Astarte’s precision and speed, traitors.
Gaelan moved to stand up from his crashed position but was brought down to his knee in pain, this was no ordinary wound from a bolter round. The astartes physiology would have staunched the bleeding in moments yet the bleeding was begining to accelerate. He signalled a data code for a mobile support squad to proceed to his location, high priority markers.
“bold of you to think there is a way you make it out of here alive” the mocking tone originated from the dark recesses of the spire hallway, footsteps following its echo. “But I would be remiss if I didn’t cut the head off this pathetic rabble you call a chapter” pistol raised the renegade emerged into the light, unhelmed as to allow their sharpened teeth to shine behind a rictus grin.
The generator on Gaelan’s back was silent, his plate armour now dead weight fixing his wounded body to the floor. The lieutenant knew that as soon as he raised his stalker bolter to fire the heretic will have emptied their magazine in his skull. The renegade gestured to speak, hubris was a common trait for those that wore this legions colours, but he was cut off with a roar. The sound of a jump pack flaring from beyond the blown in wall, cutting the Night Lord’s gloating short. Justice Leontus hurtled into view, his ornate double headed axe in hand. The round fired off were deflected by his Iron Halo, energy visibly rippling from their impact.
“I thought I could hear the barking of a dog” leontus landed beside Gaelon ignoring him, entirely fixated on the heretic. “Time to die, like the rabid animal that was your father” the haft of the axe falling through his hand into a swinging grip, thrusters igniting.
