Black Saints
This is a real old illustration, but people seem to like it. The Black Saints are a custom chaos chapter..warband I guess they’re called? The idea was similar to what Dan Abnett has done with the Alpha Legion, where they may be ‘chaos tainted,’ but they’re not purely ‘evil’. Or maybe, not ‘simply’ evil would be more accurate. They believe overturning the Imperium is the right thing to do to ensure the continuation of humanity, and will stop at nothing to do so. Misguided to the Nth degree may be a better description than Chaos infected.
I’m not a fan of the typical chaos character. The idea of chaos strikes me as pedantic. It’s easy being bad, especially for humans. Why should someone get credit for being the baddest? Toughest? ok, I can understand the attraction, especially in a galaxy where the primary tradecraft seems to be war. Craftiest? I can get behind that. Misguided? Selfish? Happens all the time! but cruelest? Feh. Anybody can kick a duck. And to me, doing so is less an ability than it is the inability to resist giving in to our baser emotions. Feels more like weakness to me.
