Ka is the official Chapter Master of the Ashen Shrikes
Well. Ka himself finds the term Chapter Master rather humorous since the Ashen Shrikes are no where near a full chapter strength. Hell, technically, the Ashen Shrikes were never really considered a “real” Astartes chapter when it was first assigned in its original form as a supplement to an Imperial Navy headed fleet force. Nevertheless, Ka unwillingly bears the title of the Chapter Master, only to deny some of the more ambitious and hot-headed Chapter members the position. He finds no real appeal to being a “Leader” and the only solace he finds in holding the title is that it really annoys one such ambitions Chapter member, Ungriel. It also annoys Ungriel to no end that Ka treats Passeris, a polar opposite to Ungriel, as the real leader of the Chapter.
As a “Chapter Master”, Ka has access to the Chapter’s very few Terminator armors(another factor which ALSO annoys Ungriel who coincidentally has no such privilege). Ka likes to keep his personal armor fairly unadorned, as he finds it hypocritical to have decorations on his armor when the Chapter already has limited resources. He also finds that large decorations just makes him an easy target in the field of battle. The only noteworthy decoration he has personally requested for is a part of a wing, snapped off an Aquila that originally decorated one of their Loyalist ships, scavenged from the wreckages. A combat modification he has asked for and a key feature of his armor is the chest mounted Assault Launchers which compliments his preference to Deepstrike at a very close range. Ka likes to call it his “Explosive Entrance” as he Deepstrikes as close as he can to enemy position and detonates the Assault Launchers, obliterating the usually very fragile non-Astartes targets. Those who survive are left dazed and confused and unable to defend as his Storm Bolter and Chainfist makes quick work of them.
Outside of combat(which, even though he enjoys, he rarely partakes in anyways), and during off-operation hours, Ka can be found in various parts of the ships, usually just looking around or making small talk or jokes with crew members. He rarely takes heed to official titles or protocols as long as it doesn’t effect operations.
Of course all of this visage of carelessness/carefreeness and rather childlike demeanor does not hint that Ka is the most experienced member of the Chapter. In fact, Ka has been purging the enemies of the Imperium long before the Chapter(the original Loyalist Chapter) was founded. And when the Chapter was originally forming, Ka and many others were scouted away from their home Chapters to mentor and lead the new found Chapter. Many years have passed and most of those founding Astartes have been killed off from either the countless years of thankless death that has lead to the rebirth of the Ashen Shrikes or during the actual rebirth event of the chapter. Now only Ka and Attritus (The Chapter Apothecary) remains.
