The OG Rogue Trader found!
A rare surviving illustration by the late artist Martin Mckenna thought lost has been rediscovered languishing between the pages of a book! The rediscovered illustration, ‘The Rogue Trader’, was the missing illustration of a body of work created by Mckenna for the first edition of Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader.
Over the course of 5 years we have managed with the help of the community to track down and account for all of Mckeena’s body of work attributed to the first edition rule book including important preliminary works that Martin collaborated on with Blanche, Naismth and Goodwin. This piece was found after a similar request by us was made to the community to see what people had!
The piece itself is stunning! It reveals extra detailing than the published version which we now know was slightly cropped! And yes we have counted the individual segments to the piping! We feel it is important to call out that Mckenna was 16/17 years old when he drew the iconic illustrations. Incidentally the book where it had been stored for safety and forgotten was the Realms of Chaos, The Lost and Damned
