[Warhammer 40K] – SERVO SKULL
A personal project inspired by the grimdark universe of Warhammer 40,000. This servo skull asset was created as a cinematic-quality prop with a focus on realistic detailing and atmospheric presentation.
Asset Overview:
Designed as a haunting blend of decayed remains and Imperial machinery, this servo skull channels the dark techno-gothic aesthetic of the Imperium.
Modeling:
Sculpted the high-resolution skull and mechanical details in ZBrush, Model work done in Maya.
Texturing:
Used Substance 3D Painter to create layered, weathered material ranging from worn bone to oxidized metal and ancient wiring. Special attention was given to story-driven surface details like corrosion, grime, and wear patterns.
Look Development:
Shader work was handled in Arnold with custom material layering to reflect the skull’s hybrid organic-tech nature. Emissive elements were designed to glow subtly with embedded mechanical menace.
Lighting & Rendering:
A moody cinematic lighting setup was developed to enhance the dark sci-fi tone. Rendered using Arnold Renderer in Maya, with controlled rim lights, emissive bloom, and deep shadows.
Compositing:
Final passes were assembled in Nuke and Photoshop with added VFX such as sparks, embers, and atmosphere to tie the model into a dystopian Warhammer-inspired world.
