Umbranor was born during a total solar eclipse on Annularum, a planet in the Ultima Segmentum that is the homeworld of the Eclipse Guard, a Salamanders successor chapter. Children born on the Annularum during these times are believed by the planet’s inhabitants to be of unique character, ability, and destiny. From an early age, Umbranor displayed a fondness for eclipse events, during which he felt a clarity and presence of mind, unlike anything he was used to.
Umbranor’s father was the head of the local Imperial force tasked with ensuring no Chaos cults gained a foothold on the planet. He soon became his father’s understudy and was able to contribute tactical advice during anti-Chaos raids on the planet at a young age.
As a result of his birth during a total solar eclipse, Umbranor was believed by the people of Annularum to possess a mystical connection to the warp. This connection grants him heightened intuition and extraordinary mental presence during eclipse events and in low-light conditions. In battle, this means Umbranor is seemingly able to stay one step ahead of his enemies, fighting with a flow-like nature and predicting enemy movements.
