The War for Fayre’s World in the Canto Strait – 839.M37
Fayre’s World was a rich mercantile planet in the closing centuries of M37, controlling a safe warp passage known as the Canto Strait which allowed transit from contiguous Imperial space to the sector beyond. Known for its three terrestrial starports and extensive orbital facilities, the world was naturally a common stopping point for all manner of civilian traffic, as well as the local battlefleet.
A combination of avarice, a lust for power and a troubling failure amongst the planetary leadership to adhere to core tenets of the Imperial Creed was to spell doom, however. Having drawn the attention of a truly vast fleet of Eldar Corsairs, known as the Dawnstar Reavers, Fayre’s World was swiftly overwhelmed.
Due to the lightning nature of the attack and the demands upon local naval elements from other, ongoing wars, a proper Imperial response was to be long in coming. Few forces could be redirected to Fayre’s World on such short notice. So it was that the Imperial Guardsmen of the Riverran Grenadiers found themselves thrust into the conflict with very little in the way of support. Only with the arrival of Astartes from the both the Black Thanes and Marines Resplendent chapters was the possibility of victory at last able to be even considered.
Fayre’s World, no matter who was to emerge victorious, would demand a high price – one paid in blood.
Amazing artwork by the incredible @salvador_trakal inspired by the iconic image of Abaddon clutching Cadia.
Fayre’s World is a big collaborative project – expect to see more of it soon!
