ROGAL DORN
Well, here we are Thursday, which means a new Primarch.
Rogal Dorn is a character for whom there honestly isn’t that much to say. He is both straightforward and, in a way, “minimalistic.” His strength lies in embodying two or three core concepts and doing so better than anyone else.
In my opinion, the true fascination of the character emerges only after countless stories and battles, when we finally see him have a powerful emotional reaction in the presence of the bodies of Sanguinius and the Emperor. Even Dorn is overcome by guilt, and not even his long meditations through suffering can help him endure that sight.
I also love how, despite remaining steadfast in his convictions, he ultimately accepts Sigismund’s belief in the God-Emperor and even apologizes for not having believed him sooner. The fact that he can acknowledge his mistakes makes him human and, above all, a genuinely good man.
That’s really what Dorn is: a good man. And because of that, it’s impossible not to like him.
I hope you enjoy this portrait. The next one will be Perturabo, and I’ll try to contrast him against Dorn in the same way I did with Konrad and Corvus.
Let me know what you think. As always, thank you for all the support you’ve shown for this project I’m working on.
See you next Thursday.
