Corrupted Blood Raven Apothecary
+++Inquisitorial Designation – Corvid19+++
One of only nineteen Blood Raven marines attached to an Astra Militarum batallion tasked with destroying a growing agri-world based Nurgle-ite cult, Brother Apothecary Delano was both a prodigious healer, biologist, and formidable warrior.
When the medical outpost in which Delano’s squad was stationed was attacked by an unexplainably high number of cultists, shambling mutants, and traitor Astartes, over two hundred guardsmen fell in the ensuing battle.
After hours of brutal fighting, the Chaos worshippers were eventually routed, though when the dust settled fully half of the guard casualties were unaccounted for, as was Delano.
Despite the dire losses, the campaign pushed on for several months with the nucleus of the cult eventually being discovered and destroyed. Withdrawing from the planet, the Blood ravens recorded Delano as having been Killed in Action – the only casualty of the nineteen marines sent planetside – honourably serving the chapter and the inhabitants of the infested agri-world.
When years later, reports came from the planet of a resurgence of cult activity at scale even greater than before, most initially suspected these to be paranoid exaggerations – nothing more than a handful of cultists who escaped the Emperor’s judgment and were meddling in things beyond their understanding. Then holo-footage of a Astartes in white armour at the head of a shambling mass of altered humanity was broadcast across the sector by persons unknown.
Much about Delano had Changed, but the Blood Raven insignia was still emblazoned across the pauldron of his now putrescent armour. Whether corrupted by the promise of knowledge like some Ravens before him, or in a more foul, unnatural way remains unknown. To the Blood Ravens his name has become another black mark on their reputation, and the Inquisition, while trying to uncover and understand what truly happened to one of the Blood Ravens’ most promising Primaris Marines have simply designated him: ‘Corvid19 – Excommunicate Traitoris’.
