Lamenter
I was recently commissioned to paint a personalised Space Marine II Squad portrait. Each of the players Astartes had unique livery and load-outs which I replicated and posed in a manner that I felt best complimented them individually and when composed as a trio of battle brothers.
The first of these featured in this gallery is a Lamenter Assault Marine, wielding a Thunder Hammer and Neo-Volkite Pistol. It was a fun challenge to paint the backlit brightly coloured armor; the decorative ornamentation such as the fourragere/braided cords, aquila, (24) skulls and reliquary and purity seals were extremely pleasing to realise.
I feel in the final artwork the broad shouldered yellow Lamenter looks quite imposing flanked by his complimentary-coloured brothers
If you scroll through the gallery you’ll see close ups on some of the characters’ details and how my style of painting – hatch, spatter and selective tonal value – is applied.
It can’t be understated how much I’ve enjoyed painting these Space Marines; it was an honour to be able to represent the player’s characters in an artwork. I’m a huge fan of the WH40K universe, particularly the Black Library novels and look forward to doing more in the future (If you have a chance, have a look at the Primaris Intercessor (Lieutenant) I painted a couple of years ago).
Painted with Blood and Ink in Clip Studio Paint.
