Aaaaand… here is my latest addition to the Warhammer 40,000 Primarchs’s project (which I’ve come to refer to as the “Libris Primaris”). This time around, it’s the Iron Warriors’s Primarch, Perturabo.
His description, from all the background I managed to find, has always been quite simple: he was a masterful siege-engineer; a great strategist, but also a bit limited at that. Not in his intelligence, but because he had a very logical mind and a pragmatic eye that left no space for anything else. In the end, that would be his downfall into Chaos. Thus, he is depicted facing against his loyal Brothers, as Horus.
A most interesting detail of his fall, however, lies in the hammer he carries. If I got my references right, it’s called Forgebreaker (although it has been referred as Siegebreaker) and carried Chaos powers inside. It was handed to him, knowingly, by the Warmaster Horus and so Perturabo’s fate was sealed.
I like this rendition a lot, as well as all of this series of pieces. Mainly because I was able to give Perturabo the look of a block of steel, a cold, hard colossal monolith; like one of the impenetrable walls he built for the Imperium. Whilst, at the same time, trying to have the loyalist iconography on him still and subtle touches of ornament, not as subtle and beautiful as his other brothers’s, but there to see, if you looked closely enough. The background I also liked very much, with the fortified defenses and the shadows on the cityscape behind it.
